From August 5-11, 2024, Sofia hosted the 11th European Showdown Championship, a long-awaited event for the Bulgarian sports community. Initially planned for 2020 but postponed due to the pandemic, the event was successfully rescheduled thanks to the efforts of the “Federation for Sports for Blind” with support of the “Ministry of Youth and Sports” and the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA).
The SHOWDOWN project, an Erasmus+ co-funded initiative, was highlighted during the championship. This project promotes the participation of visually impaired individuals in physical activities through the inclusive sport of SHOWDOWN. It aims to create social connections and improve health, providing a guide for organizing safe and inclusive SHOWDOWN activities. On August 8, representatives from the Bulgarian Sports Development Association attended the event and shared information about the project.
